National Council on Disability

The National Council on Disability is an independent federal agency that helps develop government disability policies, such as the original Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Key issues include personal assistance services, health care reform, inclusion of students with disabilities in high quality programs in typical neighborhood schools, equal employment opportunity, community housing, implementation of ADA, improving assistive technology, and ensuring that persons with disabilities, including minorities, participate fully in society.
