Resource Review Process & Criteria
February 24, 2009
To ensure that the resources provided by the LIFE Center are of high quality, the Center uses a systematic approach for reviewing and approving all resources offered through the Center and its web site. The specific objectives of this process are:
1. To be inclusive, which means that there is an opportunity for all levels of professional staff to submit and review materials,
2. To be efficient, which means to distribute the workload among many reviewers and to have a timely turn-around process, and
3. To be user friendly, which means that the criteria are easy to use.
Exploring and reviewing resources for the eight major topic areas of the Center is an ongoing task of the LIFE Center team. This process also includes the participation of RIC treatment teams and other professionals who are involved in developing patient education materials, as well as recommending, reviewing, and developing other resources for the Center. A task force comprised of 12 experts representing medicine, nursing, and allied health specialties developed a set of resource review criteria to help the LIFE team and other professional staff review and select resources. The following guidelines are used:
1. Evaluate the quality of the resource using the LIFE Center Review Criteria. If the resource is deemed as patient education versus consumer health, include at least 3 experts and whenever possible, a consumer in your review process. If you are recommending a consumer health resource, include 2 experts (a combination of 2 staff/experts or a staff expert and/or consumer) in your review.
2. Submit the evaluated resource to the LIFE Center, indicating the name, credentials, and title of the reviewers and contact information, department, phone.
Note: Submit all internally authored resources, i.e., care/tip sheets, and listings in an electronic format using Microsoft Word. Format the Word document(s) in 12 point Arial for the text and 18 point Bold for the title. Subtitles are 12 point Bold. Include the name, credentials, title, and company of the author(s) under the title of the document.
Upon receipt of the submitted resource, the LIFE Center team verifies the evaluation, conducts a final proof if the resource was authored by an RIC expert, catalogs the resource in the database, and determines procurement requirements for the Center and/or posting on the web site.
