Ice Bound
A Doctor’s Incredible Battle for Survival at the South Pole
Reviewed August 2005
Author: Dr. Jerri Nielsen , MD
Dr. Jerri Neilsen, a doctor stationed on the South Pole, discovered a lump in her breast in winter of 1999. Due to the fact that she was the only doctor stationed there she had to perform a biopsy on herself and treat herself with chemotherapy. She communicated with U. S. doctors via satellite e-mail, until she was rescued by the Air National Guard, who dropped off a replacement doctor and took her home.
This is the story of survival and how one woman was able to endure in very difficult circumstances.
